Artwork basics / AI2VINYL

Why is wrap artwork sharp on screen but blurry when printed?

A small preview can hide missing detail. Check the image at its intended print dimensions before committing to production.

Screen size can hide the problem

An image displayed a few inches wide may contain far fewer pixels than the same graphic needs across a large vehicle panel. Enlarging it spreads those pixels over more space. A screenshot or downloaded social-media preview can also be smaller or more compressed than the original artwork.

Changing DPI does not create source detail

Editing the resolution label without adding meaningful image information does not restore sharp edges. Upscaling can sometimes improve the appearance of photographic content, but it can invent or soften detail. It is not a reliable repair for a customer’s exact logo, phone number or small lettering.

Check the real size and scale together

Tell the shop the intended output width and height and whether the document is full size or scaled. Ask it to inspect effective image resolution at the final size. A small test print of a critical section can be more useful than judging only a zoomed-out mockup.

Choose a repair that fits the asset

Obtain the original vector logo when available. Redraw critical shapes and type where needed. Replace unsuitable photographs or textures with licensed, appropriate-quality sources. Some supplied images require redesign rather than tracing. Request an artwork review before printing a full set of panels.
